I have concluded that Christmas is about my family and to spend my time at home. Reading with the children by the fire, indulging in day time bubble-gum-for-your-brain-television-shows (I hardly ever watch television) go for walks or just spend the day in my PJ's. It is liberating to say no, let's stay at home. It is blissfully restful to make pancakes for late breakfasts and just be...The children love it having spent the best part of their school holidays forever packing & unpacking, catching planes, waiting in airport lounges and enduring long hire car journeys between far flung relatives scattered around Sweden doing quick pit-stops to make sure we cover as many cousins and second cousins as possible and then dashing back again to entertain weekend guest at our house in the Chilterns.
But then let's just say that if I was to go somewhere for Christmas - there is this perfect place of recreation in the middle of the Cairngorms National Park, warm and beautifully appointed cottages in the most peaceful and stunningly beautiful Scottish highland glen of a Victorian Sporting Estate called Glen Tanar. If I could teleport, this is the ultimate mid winter destination for all things recreation as somebody will be there making the pancakes for breakfast and you will wake up in total peace & quiet. All cottages have satellite television and wifi just in case you find the silence a bit much ...www.glentanar.co.uk
